Business Names

The Companies Act 1985 requires all businesses who trade under a name other than that of their owner or the full corporate name of the company, to show the owner's name and address on all of the following: -

  • Business Letters
  • Purchase Orders
  • Invoices
  • Receipts


Sole Trader

If you trade under a name other than your own surname with or without initials, then you are required to show your initials and surname. In addition you need to show an address where you can normally be contacted, if different from the trading address.

Partnerships

You are required to show the names of each partner and an address where they can be normally contacted. If the partners number more than twenty, then you need not display them on your stationery. However, a full list of the partners names and addresses are required at their principal place of business.

Limited Companies

Companies who use their full corporate name need not state the name of any of its directors on any business letter on which the company's name appears, but if you do, you must list them all.

A company which trades under another name must include it's full corporate name on the above stationery items.
